Leaving a gift in your Will helps the ISPCA create better lives for animals we rescue

30 OCTOBER 2018

The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) is one of 60 Irish charities asking the public to consider leaving a gift in their wills during My Legacy Week October 29th – November 4th, 2018.

The ISPCA is Ireland’s national animal welfare charity preventing cruelty to all animals, promoting animal welfare and pro-actively relieving animal suffering throughout the country.

Gifts in wills enable the ISPCA to investigate complaints of animal cruelty, and rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals suffering from neglect and abuse. With 88% of total income coming from public donations and legacies, the ISPCA depend on public generosity to help animals that are suffering now.

Dr Andrew Kelly, ISPCA CEO said: “When you choose to leave a legacy gift to the ISPCA in your will, you are helping the ISPCA create new, better lives for the many animals we rescue from appalling conditions. Once in our care, animals of all species are nurtured back to health, loved and cared for before being responsibly rehomed. After you have looked after family and friends, we encourage you to consider supporting the ISPCA in your will. It doesn't matter how much you can give, leaving your legacy gift means we can be certain that we can continue our vital work in the future. We are extremely grateful for this kindness.”

Last year members of the public reported over 16,211 case of animal cruelty to the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline. Our Animal Welfare Inspectors investigated 3,273 cases, and our centres admitted more than 1,250 animals. Nineteen prosecutions were initiated following ISPCA investigations and a total of 21 cases were finalised in court.

Your kindness will live on through a life-saving gift to the ISPCA, as we simply cannot continue this kind of work without your support.

Fergal O’Sullivan, Chairperson of My Legacy said: “When you’re making your will, you will naturally look after your family and loved ones first. Once all other personal decisions have been made, you might want to acknowledge a cause you feel strongly about. This thoughtful support will have an impact in the future.”
