Dog Breeding Establishments Bill passed through the Dail

The ISPCA welcomes the passing of the new Dog Breeding Establishments Bill through the Dail. The bill passed relatively easily in the end, by 92 votes to 50. The Government, Labour and a number of Independents supported the legislation while it was opposed by Fine Gael and Sinn Fein. Despite the amendments and concessions that were made in the run up to the vote the ISPCA is optimistic that this long-overdue piece of law will serve to regulate the breeding of dogs in Ireland and, in time, rid this nation of its "puppy farming capital of Europe" tag.
