Friday November 11th 2011: An animal welfare collation including ISPCA, Dogs Trust, Dublin SPCA and Irish Blue Cross today welcomed an important achievement for animal welfare in this country as newly elected President, Michael D. Higgins, will sign the Greyhound Welfare Bill 2011 into law at the first official bill signing under the new President in Aras an Uachtarain.
The coalition said today: The signing into law of the Greyhound Welfare Bill 2011 will mark another significant day for animal welfare in this country and as a group in Ireland that have worked together to improve animal welfare in this country we welcome this development. The signing of this Bill will open the way for Minister Phil Hogan, to sign the order bringing into effect the long awaited Dog Breeding (Establishments) Act 2010.
We welcome the new President of Ireland, who had a long track record of committed campaigning for animal welfare, and protecting those who are most vulnerable in our society.
The ISPCA, Dogs Trust, DSPCA and the Irish Blue Cross would also like to acknowledge the participation from concerned supporters and members of the public. Thank you for your continued support.
