After a recent spate of sheep attacks, resulting in numerous deaths of sheep. The ISPCA strongly urges dog owners to be responsible for keeping their animal/s under control.
Dog owners must not let their pets roam freely in the countryside where they can inflict horrific damage and suffering on a sheep flock. People have to ensure that their dog is securely housed at night. Dogs can hunt together in packs and are responsible for many attacks on sheep around this time of year, especially at night. A dog attack on a sheep flock can inflict serious damage in terms of animal welfare and financial consequence.
Under the ‘Control of Dogs Act’, owners can be held liable for the financial damage inflicted on livestock from an attack by their dog, and may result in costs well into the thousands.Viewed 2426 times.
