How You Can Help
For over 60 years, the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA)has worked locally and nationally rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing cruelly treated and neglected animals. The Society is the umbrella organisation for 21 affiliated local animal welfare organisations across Ireland and as such provides training and support to a dedicated and committed core of volunteers. The Society is also represented internationally through our active membership of the World Society for the Protection of Animals. Sadly, the ISPCA foresee an even greater need for our services in 2010.
During the course of 2009, the dedicated ISPCA Animal Cruelty Help line received over 10,000 calls relating to incidents of cruelty or neglect to animals. Of these calls 1,799 were reports that required follow up visits from ISPCA Inspectors, and in many cases resulted in the Inspectorate uncovering acts of severe cruelty and neglect. The ISPCA exists to end cruelty to animals. We want to make ending cruelty to animals the defining cause of our time. The ISPCA rely on the generosity of the Irish public for 95% of our funding. Widespread funding cuts for all government services are anticipated for 2010, making the ISPCA even more reliant on the generosity of the Irish public for funding.
