My dog was vaccinated against Distemper as a pup but I'm told that he needs to have a booster vaccinations regularly. Why is this and what is distemper?
Is it necessary to have my one year old bitch speyed or should I first allow her to have a litter of puppies?

I have a 2 and a half year young male red setter. In the last month we have noticed that he is not very keen on his food.He will approach his bowl and then walk away and leave it without touching it.He seems to be doing this now on a daily basis.The food is Eukanuba complete adult dog food which he has eaten since a puppy.The funny thing is if we play with him by taking some food from the bowl and throw to him he will eat it without a problem but refuses to eat what remains in the bowl!

We got our dog from a shelter about 2 years ago and we have terrible problems giving him a wash/bath which leads us to believe that his previous owners may have tried to drown him. He gets really upset even at the sight of the sponge. Have you any suggestions as to how we can wash him in future or is it something that we all have to get used to?
My Jack Russell had his tail docked when we got him. Will this affect him in any way?

He remains indoors for most of the day - he gets one good walk a day and is free to come and go to our small back garden. The problem is that he has a terrible odour.Would you have any idea as to what may be causing this odour?.
I am just wondering on the best type of family dog that would be suitable for us. We have an average size garden, 2 children and are looking at the following types: Cairn / Silky / Yorkshire Terrier or the Cocker Spaniel. I'd be grateful if you give us your advice. Thank you.
Our pet dog is a mongrel and well he is getting qiute old (13) and recently his hearing has been getting worse but also his balance has gone. Whenever he has been lying down and tries to get up he just falls over and when he bends down to eat his dinner he also falls over. What could be the problem?
I leave the house early in the morning and come back late in the evening (around 8pm). I would love to get a dog and am thinking of a small breed. Is it cruel to leave a dog alone in the house for this length of time? Even if he/she has access to the garden via a door flap? Or would she get used to it and settle into a routine of being fed and walked in the evening time?
My dog is 7 years old and she loves killing bees in the garden. I think that she has been stung and is out of sorts and won't eat and drinks very little. She normally refuses to eat dog food without it being mixed with fish/tuna, but she refused to eat even that.Can you get an antihistamine for a dog? Do you think that I should take her to our Vet, in case she is having a bad reaction to the sting? She was like this about a week and a half ago and it lasted a day or two.
